THE PUCCINI AND HIS LUCCA INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

The festival was born on March 6, 2004, in Lucca, a city that boasts an unparalleled musical tradition. Just mentioning some composers like Nicolao Dorati, Cristoforo Malvezzi, Gioseffo Guami, Giovanni Lorenzo Gregari, Francesco Barsanti, Francesco Geminiani, Filippo Manfredi, Luigi Boccherini, Alfredo Catalani, and Giacomo Puccini emphasizes the musical heritage of this land. Lucca is a land of musicians, and none are loved as much as Puccini; the recognition of the greatness of his music is almost unanimous.

Andrea Colombini, artistic director and president, strongly desired that the name of Giacomo Puccini be inseparably linked to the city where the maestro was born on December 22, 1858. Puccini and his Lucca are the world's only permanent festival. Recitals, selections of operas, special concerts throughout the year, every day of the year in the most charming Basilica in the center of Lucca – San Giovanni – all at the same time (concerts start at 7:00 pm) and all performed by renowned national and international singers and pianists.
